We start with a stroll through the narrow cobbled streets admiring the houses and renaissance facades as far as the ruins of the castle where the stunning views over olive groves and vines can reach as far as the Mediterranean on a clear day. From the castle's ruins, you will learn about life in medieval France, from the general social makeup, to the traditions and defensive strategies that were used. Today board a semi-rigid boat or a small open yacht for a private tour of the Calanques with your captain. The word “calanque” (from the Provençal “calanco”) is the word for a valley carved by a river before reaching the sea. The Calanques are a series of beautiful narrow inlets along the coast and are a protected national park. They are synonymous with the French Mediterranean coast line and are a "must see" when in the region. Enjoy your day on board, you will have plenty of time for swimming. On board for your use: snorkeling gear (palm, mask and tubas). Marseille’s calanques cover a 20-kilometer (12 mile) stretch of coastline between the village of Les Goudes, a community in the southwestern corner of Marseille, and Cassis. This is one of the most remarkable sites in France, and an important area for natural resources and sport activities. The setting is majestic, from the limestone cliffs overlooking untouched inlets, to the tiny fishing ports dotted with tiny “cabanons,” typical provençal houses. The numerous fossils encrusted in the limestone are evidence of a story that began more than one hundred million years ago with the accumulation of sediment in the seabed, followed by an uplifting during the Tertiary Period (when the Alps took shape). Erosion has accentuated the rifts and given birth to the rugged landscape we see today.

Depending on your preferences, we reccomend you spend the remainder of your journey relaxing in one of the incredible accomodations that the South of France has to offer! Châteauneuf du Pape is without a doubt the most famous of all of the Southern Rhone wines. The history of this illustrious region really begins with the arrival of the Popes in France at the start of the 14th Century. the Popes were very fond of Burgundy wine which was easy to transport along the rivers Saône and Rhone. Wine production in the region was not particularly notable at the time and clearly not good enough for a Pope! The wine production improved with the influences of the Popes and under the Papacy of Pope John XXII much was done to improve the techniques used and he was a regular consumer of the wines produced to the North of Avignon. These wine became known as the "Vin du Pape", this term later becoming "Châteauneuf-du-Pape." John XXII also built the castle which is the symbol of the appellation. Today, Châteauneuf du Pape is the iconic Southern Rhone wine, regularly featuring in the top 10 best red wines in the world and covers more than 3,200 hectares or 7,900 acres and actually produces more wine in this one area of the southern Rhône than in all of the northern Rhône put together! A tour we propose begins with the ruins of the castle built by John XXII where you have a perfect view over the entire region and where you guide will introduce the Appellation, its geological specificities and its history. From here we will drive towards the region of the Dentelles de Montmirail, a geological rock formation around which are situated the vineyards of Vacqueyras, Gigondas, Beaumes de Venise, Rasteau, Sablet and Cairanne stopping one the way to take a look at the very particular soil made up of large pebbles that are essential to the make up of Châteauneuf du Pape. Obviously, you will be tasting some of the finest wines the region has to offer throughout the day with our expert wine guide.
